Greetings and thank you for

As I prepare for the onslaught of
family coming for the holidays I still feel today's ezine is really
important to get out. Next week I will not have time to publish as the
family begins to arrive on Monday and I want to spend as much time as
possible with them, which will limit my research time! Enjoy your

Dying your hair boosts your
chances of getting cancer!
Coloring your hair can make you look great. But it may
also increase your risk of cancer!
The danger first came to light when researchers noticed that
hairdressers had the highest rate of breast cancer of any profession.
This finding led to several studies on the link between hair dye and
cancer.
1. One study found that women who use hair dye at least once a month are
twice as likely to develop bladder cancer as those who do not. And women
who have regularly used hair dye for at least 15 years have triple the
risk! Women who apply hair dye at least once a day stands the same
risks!
2. Another study compared 459 people who had bladder cancer to 665
people who did not. The study found that women who used hair dye had a
higher rate of bladder cancer. And it didn't matter whether the women
used permanent, semi-permanent, or rinse. All 3 types raised cancer
risk.
3. Still another study found that a woman's risk of bladder cancer
depends on how well her body excretes arylamine, a chemical found in
permanent hair dyes.
Why would putting chemicals in your hair cause cancer?
Because these chemicals penetrate the skin on your scalp and enter your
bloodstream. The blood is then Filtered by the kidneys, and works its
way into the urine in your bladder. Since the lining of the bladder is
very sensitive, exposure to the chemicals leads to cell damage that
develops into bladder cancer. Slow working kidneys and bladder back up
into the rest of the body and create other cancers!
Fortunately, there are steps you can take to protect yourself.
First of all, make sure you drink plenty of water before, during, and
after getting your hair colored. This will keep urine moving through
your bladder, reducing your exposure to carcinogens. (A 1999 study
found that people who drink ten or more glasses of water a day have
almost half the risk of bladder cancer of people who drink less than
five glasses.)
Secondly, and most importantly, you should keep your exposure to
chemical dyes to a bare minimum. Two options include foiling and
highlights, as less dye touches your scalp. But an even better option is
to use natural, plant-based hair dyes. If you've tried natural dyes like
henna and been dissatisfied with the color, there is great news for you:

What if you've already been using chemical hair dye for years?
It is recommended that you detox your body with supplements like milk

cancer-fighting antioxidants, namely vitamin A, C and bioflavonoids.
These antioxidants fight cell damage and boost the very necessary

body's detoxification process.
Do the following every three months;

Symptoms of bone pain
and muscle weakness can mean you have a vitamin D deficiency. However,

Strange shape, strange names,
looks like a fruit but isn't a fruit!
I see these are back in the supermarket as they are in harvest mode in
some parts of the world and shipped to us.
This strange pear/ball/grapefruit shaped thing is not a fruit I?ve eaten
for years. It?s very new to our household but very tasty and healthy. I
found out that this particular fruit carries names like; pomelo =
pummelo = Chinese grapefruit = shaddock! Pronunciation: PUHM-uh-low -
The French name for this fruit is chadec. The current Malayan names are
limau abong, limau betawi, limau bali, limau besar, limau bol, limau
jambua, Bali lemon, and pomelo. The names throughout the world are
extensive and too many to bore you by printing them here but if you are

I'll call it a Pummelo as that is what the name on the box says...
Pummelo is the largest of the citrus fruits with a shape that can be
fairly round or slightly pointed at one end similar to a pear - the
fruit ranges from nearly round to oblate or pear-shaped. They range from
cantaloupe-size to as large as a 25-pound watermelon and have very
thick, soft rind. The one I bought was sort of pear shaped and about 10
inches across... It is known in the western world mainly as the
principal ancestor of the grapefruit The pummelo is popular in the Asia
and is new to California but rarely seen in the Eastern United States.
It's sweeter than a grapefruit. The skin is greenish yellow and slightly
bumpy with the feel of citrus skin; flesh color ranges from pink to
rose.

The pulp is milder and sweeter than its closest cousin, the grapefruit.
Pummelos are available mid-January through mid-February from California.
Can be used in the same manner as any other citrus fruit.
Said to be native to southeastern Asia and all of Malaysia; It is said
to grow wild on river banks in the Fiji and Friendly Islands. It is said
to have been introduced into China around 100 B.C. It is much cultivated
in southern China - Kwang-tung, Kwangsi and Fukien Provinces - and
especially in southern Thailand on the banks to the Tha Chine River;
also in Taiwan and southernmost Japan, southern India, Malaya,
Indonesia, New Guinea and Tahiti.
The
pummelo is also called shaddock after an English sea captain, Captain
Shaddock, who introduced the seed to the West Indies in the 17th Century
from the Malay Archipelago. The seeds produced fruit somewhat smaller
than the current grapefruit, more like an orange. The size of the fruit
and the fact that it grew in bunches or clusters like grapes prompted a
19th century naturalist to liken the new fruit to grapes, with which it
has no botanical relationship whatsoever.
Some say the grapefruit is a cross between an orange and the pummelo (or
shaddock), while others believe that grapefruit is a natural mutant
(sometimes referred to as a small shaddock) derived from the seeds
Captain Shaddock brought to the West Indies. I have no idea which
thought is correct and feel that it doesn?t matter as the pummelo is
nutritious, tasty and healthy!
Pummelo skin is also used medicinally in some cultures. For instance, in
the Philippines and Southeast Asia, decoctions of the leaves, flowers,
and rind are given for their sedative effect in cases of epilepsy,
chorea and convulsive coughing. The hot leaf decoction is applied on
swellings and ulcers. The fruit juice is taken as a febrifuge (reducing
fever and vomiting). The seeds are employed against coughs,
dyspepsia and lumbago. Gum that exudes from declining trees is collected
and taken as a cough remedy in Brazil.
As for the nutrients in a Pummelo... There are many as with other citrus
but pomelo/pummelo or whatever you call it is extensively used for
medicinal purposes in Asian countries...
I prefer mine raw as it is very tasty, just slightly sweeter than a
grapefruit with a very similar taste. I have been unable to find out the
exact nutrients of Pummelo but I suspect they are somewhat higher than
most citrus fruits in nutrient content.
It is well worth it!

Sadly food
alone cannot yield all the necessary healthy nutrients - especially
balance of minerals - as they did in centuries past, so we can't rely
totally on our food intake! Because of the lack of nutrients in our

Why Are Stomach Upsets So
Prevalent During the Holiday Season?

A simple answer is available but escapes 99.9% of the
conventional medical world. Simple prevention and/or treatment
is only a supplement away! The following information can treat
and/or prevent bacteria or germs from ruining your holidays!
Sometimes it may mean only a small bout with diarrhea and then
it's gone. Other times it can be severe stomach cramping along
with vomiting that says you've been hit hard but you will live.

There's even less time for
humanity to try to curb
global warming than recently thought, according to a new in-depth
scientific assessment by 26 scientists from eight countries.
Sea level rise, ocean acidification and the rapid
melting of massive ice sheets are among the significantly increased
effects of human-induced global warming assessed in the survey, which
also examines the emissions of heat-trapping gases that are causing the
climate change.
"Many indicators are currently tracking near or above the worst-case
projections" made three years ago by the world's scientists, the new
Copenhagen Diagnosis said.
Nor has manmade global warming slowed or paused, as some headlines have
recently suggested, according to the report, which

The scientists also calculate that the world's emissions of
heat-trapping gases must peak in less than 10 years and then dive
quickly to nearly zero, if warming of more than another 2 degrees
Fahrenheit above the current annual global temperature is to be
prevented after 2050.
LENA'S COMMENT: I am fully aware that ostrich type people continue
say it doesn't exit or they choose to ignore as they have been sold a
bill of goods by those who don't want to put a penny into change. Look
at past civilizations that have disappeared because they refused to
change and ask yourself, "Why do I fight change?" The above is just the
tip of the iceberg - the few that remain anyway- whole islands and
coastlines are being evacuated as they are going water faster each year
and some are already under water! If you've seen the
pictures of Alaska's new and old glaciers look, or the pictures of
South America's glaciers disappearance or looked at so many Islands that
are preparing to be abandoned because of the sea rising so fast, or the
coastal Louisiana lands that are now almost completely under water and
the few remaining having to leave their lifetime homes, then the above
makes sense...
