Greetings and thank you for

This week has been about history in the U.S. and please do not be confused with
emotional high but look for actuality and hope in the world! Just as medicine
has become a huge business overlooking actual healing and has let down the multitudes so has our leaders of our country.
Maybe the new attitude will actually bring about good changes and economic improvement,
in
time. The health world can also hope with the incoming leadership, but
I'm not going to hold my breathe in either situation but will take charge of
my world and those around me that I can help. Hope is good and health
building but action is
better, not just in our leadership but most importantly we must do our part

MRSA rising in kids'
ear, nose, throat infections

CHICAGO (AP) - Researchers say they found an "alarming" increase in
children's ear, nose and throat infections nationwide caused by
dangerous drug-resistant staph germs. Other studies have shown rising
numbers of skin infections in adults and children caused by these germs,
nicknamed MRSA, but this is the first nationwide report on how common
they are in deeper tissue infections in the head and neck, the study
authors said. These include certain ear and sinus infections, and
abcesses that can form in the tonsils and throat.
The study found a total of 21,009 pediatric head and neck infections
caused by staph germs from 2001 through 2006. The percentage caused by
hard-to-treat MRSA bacteria more than doubled during that time from
almost 12 percent to 28 percent.
The study appears in January's Archives of Otolaryngology, released
Monday.
"In most parts of the United States, there's been an alarming rise,"
said study author Dr. Steven Sobol, a children's head and neck
specialist at Emory University.
Almost 60 percent of the MRSA infections found in the study were thought
to have been contracted outside a hospital setting.
MRSA infections were once limited mostly to hospitals, nursing homes and
other health-care settings but other studies have shown they are
increasingly picked up in the community, in otherwise healthy people.
This can happen through direct skin-to-skin contact or contact with
surfaces contaminated with germs from cuts and other open wounds.
But staph germs also normally live or "colonize" on the skin and in
other tissues including inside the nose and throat, without causing
symptoms. And other studies have shown that for poorly understood
reasons, the number of people who carry MRSA germs is also on the rise.
Sobol said MRSA head and neck infections most likely develop in MRSA
carriers, who become susceptible because of ear, nose or throat
infections caused by some other bug. Symptoms that it could be MRSA
include ear infections that drain pus, or swollen neck lymph nodes
caused by pus draining from a throat or nose abcess.
Unlike cold and flu bugs, MRSA germs aren't airborne and don't spread
through sneezing.
MRSA does not respond to penicillin-based antibiotics and doctors are
concerned that it is becoming resistant to others.

Vindication For Pain of FMS
A new study has detected brain abnormalities in fibromyalgia (FMS) patients. So
while these new findings may not be a cure, they're sure to give peace of mind
(and no small sense of vindication) to any fibromyalgia sufferer who's gotten a
skeptical look from his physician.
In this new study, 30 women (20 with fibromyalgia, and 10 with no disorders)
were given a brain imaging test called Single Photon Emission Computed
Tomography (SPECT).
The result? The fibromyalgia sufferers had blood flow anomalies known as "brain
perfusion" that the healthy women did not. What's more, the researchers found
that the degree of brain perfusion was in direct proportion to the severity of
the suffers' reported symptoms.
The lead author of the study, Dr. Eric Geudj of France's Centre
Hospitalier-Universitaire de La Timone, said the results of the study showed
"that the functional abnormalities observed were mainly related to disability"
rather than depression and anxiety.
LENA'S COMMENT: Watch closely as sometime in the near future more drugs will come
out that will be affecting that area of the brain. This tidbit of so-called news
was brought on by the new drug that has already hit the market and as usual it shuts
part of the body down and/or over stimulates other parts and it won't correct the problem, as usual
will create larger problems in the future of the person who takes it...

A
spice, food or a supplement?
This weeks food is another seasoning but can be considered a food.
Something you will find refreshing, healthful and tasty!
This tangy flavorful herb/food/flavoring - Zingiber Officionale -
isn't really a fruit or vegetable but a root, which could qualify as a
very spicy vegetable and a healthy food!

It's a perennial herb Zingiber Officionale or commonly English name
Gingerroot. In the fresh Gingerroot state, it has a characteristic
staghorn-like appearance; dried ginger is usually sold in form of
off-white to very light brown powder or fresh whole or pieces. Ginger
root is a rhizome or underground stem and not considered an actual root.
Depending on the location it is being grown at, it is harvested nearly
year-round. It is ready for harvest about five months after planting.
The early harvests are used for ginger syrup and candied ginger. The
later harvests are usually sold as fresh ginger. It becomes hotter and
spicier, and better for homeopathic remedies, the longer it is in the
ground.
The English botanist William Roscoe (1753-1831) gave the plant the name
of Zingiber officinale in an 1807 publication. The ginger family is a
tropical group especially abundant in Indo-Malaysia, consisting of more
than 1200 plant species. The genus Zingiber includes about 85 species of
aromatic herbs from East Asia and tropical Australia. The name of the
genus, Zingiber, derives from a Sanskrit word denoting "horn-shaped," in
reference to the protrusions on the rhizome. Major world producers
include Fiji, India, Jamaica, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and China. American
imports come from China, several Caribbean Islands, Africa, Central
America, Brazil, and Australia. Ginger is now commercially cultivated in
nearly every tropical and subtropical country in the world with arable
land for export crops. While in Hawaii last April I was privy to see
ginger growing in all it's beauty and several organic plots for personal
use as well as for sale... Fresh ginger and dried ginger are considered
two different commodities. In fact, one author of an early Chinese
herbal felt that they were so different that they must come from two
different plants! The dried root is known as Gan-jiang. The fresh root
is called Sheng-jiang.
Ginger having been around so long that its exact origin is unclear.
It reached the West at least two thousand years ago, recorded as a
subject of a Roman tax in the second century after being imported via
the Red Sea to Alexandria. Tariff duties appear in the records of
Marseilles in 1228 and in Paris by 1296. Ginger is known in England
before the Norman Conquest, as it is commonly found in the 11th century
Anglo-Saxon leech books. Ginger is detailed in a 13th century work,
"Physicians of Myddvai," a collection of recipes and prescriptions
written by a physician, Rhiwallon, and his three sons, by mandate of
Rhys Gryg, prince of South Wales (who died in 1233). By the 13th and
14th centuries it was familiar to English palates, and next to pepper,
was the most popular spice. A pound of ginger was then valued at the
price of one sheep. Ginger, as a product of the Far East, was indelibly
imprinted on the taste buds of Westerners before potatoes, tomatoes, and
corn were even known to exist by Europeans.
Medicinal properties
- Ginger leaves are occasionally used for flavoring in ginger producing
countries.
- Ginger and turmeric combine with citrus and maple syrup to make the
perfect blend of healing nutrients.
Ginger has been used for centuries in treating the common cold.
Additionally, it is an effective analgesic, anti-pyretic, anti-viral
agent. Asian cultures believe it prevents them from maladies found in
most countries such as hypertension, and in the prevention of
atherosclerosis. Other known benefits of ginger include its ability to
cleanse the colon, reduce spasms and cramps, stimulate circulation, and
aid metabolism. Many have used it to treat colitis, nausea, gas,
indigestion, bowel disorders, morning sickness, motion sickness,
vomiting, congestion, fever, and headaches. In spite of Westernized
medicine moving in on them Asian medicine still, for the most part, uses
it as a treatment for asthma, shortness of breath, water retention,
earache, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Homeopathic practitioners even
recommend it for sexual disorders. In some cultures over the centuries
it has been credited with the ability to treat arthritis, fevers, and
toothaches. It is said to have the ability to prevent internal blood
clots. An added benefit to Ginger is that it is a strong antioxidant and
effective microbial agent for sores and wounds.
Ginger in protecting and soothing the digestive system increases the pH
of stomach acid, reducing its acidity, thereby naturally lowers the rate
of gastric secretions, and increasing digestive enzyme activity. Rather
than blocking the feelings of nausea in the brain, it acts directly on
the stomach and liver to reduce nausea and vomiting. Ginger tincture -
root is soaked in alcohol and water - sometimes labeled as "drops" or
"extracts" - are available in health and natural food stores.
Recommended ten to twenty drops of ginger tincture in a little water
with meals to counteract indigestion or help fight early symptoms of
cold or flu.
Ginger root herb has no known harmful side effects, and is viewed as a
very safe herb. However, it has been known to cause heartburn in some
people. If such occurs, reduce dosage and try again or discontinue use.
In most American Asian restaurants shredded fresh ginger is offered as a
condiment to dishes and is found to be a common flavoring in most of
their dishes. Since I have not been to the orient I cannot absolutely
say how it is served over there.
Many people like raw ginger. Sometimes people will soak ginger in water
for several hours then added to the dish immediately before serving.
This gives it a more fresh, spicy and pungent taste. The freshness
decreases and the pungency increases when fresh ginger is cooked. Often
times, ginger is ground up into a powder and used in curries and spice
pastes.
Slices of ginger are used quite often to flavor foods that need to
simmer for long periods of time. The reason ginger is good for this is
because the slices release their flavor quite slowly.
Ginger tea can be made by cooking slices of fresh ginger in water for a
few minutes. It is a spicy and healthy drink that can be enjoyed in hot
tropical climates or in freezing cold climates. Below is a great tasting
and healthy detoxing, pain relieving and refreshing tea!
Ginger Healing, Pain killing, Detoxing Tea with Turmeric
INGREDIENTS
2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
1/2 teaspoon powdered turmeric
1 tablespoon maple syrup
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1. Bring water to a boil, then add powdered herbs (1/8 teaspoon FRESH
shredded ginger may be used in place of powder). Simmer for 10 ? 20
minutes.
2. Strain tea into a mug, add maple syrup or honey and lemon, stirring
to combine. Drink warm.
Makes 1 serving.
Enjoy this pleasant food/herb/medicinal in all kinds of cookies, cakes,
tea, drinks or as a condiment with fish or fruits. I add a small piece
of fresh root to my juicer when I juice apples and carrots together for
a very pleasant flavor enhancer and nutrient enrichment.

What
Medical Schools Stopped Teaching That Is Making You Ill!

In the
early to mid 1950’s, as the drug industry gained control, the
medical schools stopped teaching a fact that has since resulted
in millions of deaths, illness and diseases because it isn’t
being taught to our physicians… Where medical schools my not
have had all the drugs and modalities then that they now use in
treating symptoms they did teach true health and illness
prevention… Less heart disease, cancer and so-called congenital
diseases were extremely rare up to that time!
For almost 40
years doctor's had been taught that supplementing minerals was
necessary for the body to utilize vitamins contained in the
foods we eat. What they are now forgetting to tell the doctor's
- well forgetting is the wrong term STOPPED TEACHING would be
correct - that minerals are necessary for the formation of
blood and bone, body fluids, cellular growth and healing,
energy, muscle tone, and nerve function. And if they are not
being taught those key health facts you cannot know it either!
Scientists know and have passed it on to the medical world that
the body can manufacture certain vitamins but it cannot
manufacture minerals, therefore requires supplementing
minerals.
Minerals
are vital in the absorption, function and effectiveness of
certain vitamins. If minerals are not present in the proper
proportion, then vitamins & foods are not sufficiently absorbed
no matter how much you eat.
Even
though information
exists proving that minerals cannot be found in sufficient
quantity in our foods that are required in order to absorb our
vitamins and nutrients, it stopped being taught to our
physicians and health care personnel therefore they cannot pass
it on to you! That one failure has resulted in so-called birth
anomalies, accelerated heart problems, huge jump in cancers of
all kinds and last but not least OBESITY!
Failure to teach #1. The body must
maintain an adequate mineral supply to maintain a balance
between internal and external pressures of the body cells called
"osmotic equilibrium." This state must be maintained for normal
cell function and continued youthful health. The body does not
absorb Pill/rock minerals and only assimilates about
1% into
your system, making it imperative to take ocean/sea based
minerals for 99.9% absorption!
Failure to teach #2. All nutrients
such as vitamins, proteins, enzymes, amino acids, carbohydrates,
fats, sugars, oil, etc., require minerals for activity. All
bodily processes depend upon the action of minerals to work
properly.
Failure to teach #3. Trace minerals
are more important in nutrition than vitamins. Vitamins can be
synthesized by living matter - minerals cannot.
Failure to teach #4. Vitamins are
required for every biochemical activity of the body but,
Vitamins cannot function unless minerals are present.
Failure to teach #5. Minerals are what
make enzyme functions possible. Minerals combine with enzymes
into an alkaline detoxifying agent that neutralizes the acid
metabolic by-products of the cells and other toxic conditions
within the body and prepares them for elimination.
Failure to teach #6. Glandular
hormonal secretion is dependent upon mineral stimulation, which
is insufficient to non-existent without minerals to balance,
hence the upsurge of PMS and early menopause in women and
Prostate cancer and other cancers in men.
Failure to teach #7. The acid-alkaline
balance (pH) of tissue fluid is controlled by minerals.
Failure to teach #8. All elements work
together as a collective whole. If there is a shortage of just
one mineral, the balance of the entire bodily activity can be
thrown awry. A deficiency of one mineral may disrupt the entire
chain of life, rendering other nutrients either useless or
inefficient.
The
mineral concept is not brought into play by the traditional
medical community! Food manufacturers would have you believe
that you only need a dozen or maybe 24 or 32 minerals or trace
minerals when if fact the body require a total of 84 minerals
and trace minerals in your system to balance and nourish your
internal mechanisms that keep you alive and healthy!

Antarctic Ice Shelf Set To Collapse Due To
Warming

WILKINS ICE SHELF - A huge Antarctic ice shelf is on the brink
of collapse with just a sliver of ice holding it in place, the
latest victim of global warming that is altering maps of the
frozen continent.
"We've come to the Wilkins Ice Shelf to see its final death
throes," David Vaughan, a glaciologist at the British Antarctic
Survey (BAS), told Reuters after the first -- and probably last
-- plane landed near the narrowest part of the ice.
The flat-topped shelf has an area of thousands of square
kilometers, jutting 20 meters (65 ft) out of the sea off the
Antarctic Peninsula.
But it is held together only by an ever-thinning 40-km (25-mile)
strip of ice that has eroded to an hour-glass shape just 500
meters wide at its narrowest.
In 1950, the strip was almost 100 km wide.
"It really could go at any minute," Vaughan said on slushy snow
in bright sunshine beside a red Twin Otter plane that landed on
skis. He added that the ice bridge could linger weeks or months.
The Wilkins once covered 16,000 sq km (6,000 sq miles). It has
lost a third of its area but is still about the size of Jamaica
or the U.S. state of Connecticut. Once the strip breaks up, the
sea is likely to sweep away much of the remaining ice.
Icebergs the shape and size of shopping malls already dot the
sea around the shelf as it disintegrates. Seals bask in the
southern hemisphere summer sunshine on icebergs by expanses of
open water.
A year ago, BAS said the Wilkins was "hanging by a thread" after
an aerial survey. "Miraculously we've come back a summer later
and it's still here. If it was hanging by a thread last year,
it's hanging by a filament this year," Vaughan said.
Nine other shelves have receded or collapsed around the
Antarctic peninsula in the past 50 years, often abruptly like
the Larsen A in 1995 or the Larsen B in 2002. The trend is
widely blamed on climate change caused by heat-trapping gases
from burning fossil fuels.
WARMING TO BLAME
"This ice shelf and the nine other shelves that we have seen
with a similar trajectory are a consequence of warming," Vaughan
said.
In total, about 25,000 sq km of ice shelves have been lost,
changing maps of Antarctica. Ocean sediments indicate that some
shelves had been in place for at least 10,000 years.
Vaughan stuck a GPS monitoring station on a long metal pole into
the Wilkins ice on behalf of Dutch scientists. It will track ice
movements via satellite.
The shelf is named after Australian George Hubert Wilkins, an
early Antarctic aviator who is set to join an exclusive club of
people who have a part of the globe named after them that later
vanishes.
Loss of ice shelves does not raise sea levels significantly
because the ice is floating and already mostly submerged by the
ocean. But the big worry is that their loss will allow ice
sheets on land to move faster, adding extra water to the seas.
Wilkins has almost no pent-up glaciers behind it. But ice
shelves further south hold back vast volumes of ice. "When those
are removed the glaciers will flow faster," Vaughan said.
Temperatures on the Antarctic Peninsula have warmed by about 3
Celsius (5.4 Fahrenheit) since 1950, the fastest rise in the
southern hemisphere. There is little sign of warming elsewhere
in Antarctica.
BAS scientists and two Reuters reporters stayed about an hour on
the shelf at a point about 2 km wide.
"It's very unlikely that our presence here is enough to initiate
any cracks," Vaughan said. "But it is likely to happen fairly
soon, weeks to months, and I don't want to be here when it
does."
The U.N. Climate Panel, of which Vaughan is a senior member,
projected in 2007 that world sea levels were likely to rise by
between 18 and 59 cm (7 and 23 inches) this century.
But it did not factor in any possible acceleration of ice loss
from Antarctica. Even a small change in the rate could affect
sea levels, and Antarctica's ice sheets contain enough water in
total to raise world sea levels by 57 meters.
About 190 nations have agreed to work out a new U.N. treaty by
the end of 2009 to slow global warming, reining in emissions
from burning fossil fuels in power plants, cars and factories.
