Something To Think About
============================

Toxic Waste Overload?

It would seem that the toxic producing companies have sold a bill of goods to our government! The U.S. government is encouraging farmers to spread a chalky waste from coal-fired power plants on their fields to loosen and fertilize soil.

The material is produced by power plant "scrubbers" that remove acid-rain-causing sulfur dioxide from plant emissions. The substance is a synthetic form of the mineral gypsum, and it also contains mercury, arsenic, lead and other heavy metals.

As the power industry has sought to cut air pollution from power plants, it has resulted in more pollutants remaining in the material left behind after coal is burned. It contains such toxins as arsenic, lead, chromium and selenium, which present health and environmental risks if released into ground water. The exact characteristics depend on the type of coal burned and methods used to capture soot and smoke

The Environmental Protection Agency  (EPA) says those toxic metals occur in only tiny amounts that pose no threat to crops, surface water or people. But some environmentalists say too little is known about how the material affects crops, and ultimately human health, for the government to suggest that farmers use it.

"This is a leap into the unknown," said Jeff Ruch, executive director of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility. "This stuff has materials in it that we're trying to prevent entering the environment from coal-fired power plants, and then to turn around and smear it across ag lands raises some real questions."

With wastes piling up around the coal-fired plants that produce half the nation's power, the EPA and U.S. Department of Agriculture began promoting what they call the wastes' "beneficial uses" during the Bush administration.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

Green Tea's Powerful Antioxidants

Green tea's antioxidants, called catechins, scavenge for and destroy free radicals that can damage DNA and contribute to cancer, blood clots, and atherosclerosis. Grapes and berries, red wine, and dark chocolate also have potent antioxidants.

Because of green tea's minimal processing -- its leaves are withered and steamed, not fermented like black and oolong teas -- green tea's unique catechins, especially epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), are more concentrated. How much green tea is needed daily for all those benefits are still being discussed by many. At this time 3 cups a day is considered medicinal!

New and latest research indicates that brain decline has a direct effect on how quickly you can perform even the most basic physical acts.

No matter how fit or toned your muscles may be, if they're not getting signals from your brain quickly, they can't act quickly. It's that simple.

For your brain cells to act quickly, they need to be well insulated with a substance called myelin. Myelin binds to the brain cells and nerve fibers and has a lot to do with how well electrical impulses are carried.

According to the study's lead researcher Dr. George Bartzokis, a neurologist from UCLA, the decline in the amount of myelin in the brain is one of the reasons why it's hard to be a world-class athlete after 40.

Most people who have a neurological disease like Alzheimer's have a buildup of amyloid plaque, a toxic protein that impairs the function of your brain cells. Bartzokis reasons that, like muscle action, memory relies on the same electrical impulses. He has done previous research that indicates that there could be a gene that's linked to Alzheimer's that could retard myelin repair.

But there's hope: there are some basic health tips that will help keep your brain full of myelin. There are no surprises here: as I'm always telling you, mind and body are inextricably linked, so maintaining physical health keeps your mind sharp:

1) Stay active; both physical and mental activity can speed myelin repair.

2) Pump yourself full of omega-3 fatty acids -- they may be as beneficial for myelin levels as they are for heart health

3) Beware of elevated stress and hormone levels, which could damage myelin.

4) Do not take Cholesterol Lowering Drugs, as they are known to dissolve and atrophy the Myelin Sheath and creates a build up of amyloid plaque!

Give your brain a healthy boost with a host of brain building minerals, nutrients and herbs that are reversing some brain insufficiencies while also stopping brain breakdowns!

 TODAY'S HEALTH TIP
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~

VITAMIN ENRICHED FORTIFIED FOOD DANGERS!

Vitamin D has major health benefits. The best source of vitamin D is from the sun, but you also see many foods fortified with Vitamin D. Unfortunately, milk and other foods fortified with vitamin D often contain a synthetic form called ergocalciferol, or vitamin D2.

This synthetic form isn't as potent and doesn't last as long in your body. In fact, synthetic vitamin D becomes toxic in your body at far lower levels. Too much synthetic vitamin D2 may be linked to health problems. A number of studies link synthetic vitamin D2 to irritation of the lining of blood vessels.

In fortified milk, you may not know even how much you are getting. When Dr. Michael Holick and his colleagues at the Boston University School of Medicine tested samples of milk, they found 8 out of 10 samples contained either 20 percent less or 20 percent more vitamin D than the amount the label advertised -- and some of the milk tested contained no vitamin D at all.

Just like processed foods, most commercial vitamins are synthetic vitamins that have been robbed of all of the extra accessory micronutrients that they naturally come with. In turn, like refined foods, they can create numerous problems and imbalances in your body if taken at high levels for long periods of time.

They can also act more like drugs in your body. At the very least, they won't be as beneficial as high quality food and food-based supplements are.

Fortified foods are essentially processed foods containing synthetic vitamins and minerals. There's nothing natural about them. And as the video above shows, certain additives cannot even be considered suitable for human consumption at all!

Who in their right mind would voluntarily consider feeding their child a pinch of iron filings for breakfast each morning?

I'd venture to guess that if you did, and someone found out about it, you'd have children's social services knocking on your door questioning the safety of your household.

And yet, many children and adults end up consuming metal shavings every day, courtesy of their fortified breakfast cereal.

If you need to use a supplemental form of iron please DO NOT CONSUME FERROUS SULFATE, which can be highly toxic. The safest form of iron that I know of is Feosol Carbonyl Iron. There have been no reports of death from an overload of Feosol Carbonyl Iron.

Keep in mind that although iron is found in many foods, some people do not absorb it well. Vitamin C helps your body absorb iron, while caffeine can hinder iron absorption. Again, you'll want to get your vitamin C from natural food sources rather than a supplement when possible. If you do supplement make sure it is from organic plant sources, not synthetic OTC vitamins found on your grocery or pharmacy shelves!

FOOD OF THE WEEK
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^

A weepy, smelly food that is probably the most consumed of any vegetable!

Bad breathe or just the food you ate? A very healthy vegetable and a natural antibiotic!

The food this week is the ever popular and most consumed vegetable, the onion. Comes in many sizes, shapes and colors along with a second hand odoriferous offensive smell! "It's not good for your friends, but it is good for your health," said the lead researcher, Dr. Rui Hai Liu, a chemist in The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry department of food science.

The bulbous onion and its numerous relatives belong to a flower family namely the Lily family. How can something so smelly come from a flower family? I don't have the answer but that is a good question! Nature is a mystery in a lot of areas and this is one of those!

Some of these alliums are distinctly ornamental; a few others, notably garlic, leek, Welsh onion, and chive, are common vegetables. All of the edible forms have related flavors and odors that are due principally to a volatile, irritating substance.

The word "onion" comes from the Middle English unyun, from the French oignon, which came in turn from the Latin unio, meaning "onion." Ancient names for this plant in Sanskrit, Hebrew, Greek, and Latin are apparently unrelated, indicating widespread culture of onions from prehistoric times.

Onions can be divided into two categories: spring/summer fresh onions and fall/winter storage onions.

Spring/summer fresh onions are available in yellow, red and white throughout their season, March through August. Fresh onions can be identified by their thin, light-colored skins. Because they have a higher water content, they are typically sweeter and milder than storage onions. This higher water content also makes them more susceptible to bruising.

With their delicate taste, fresh onions are an ideal choice for salads and other fresh and lightly-cooked dishes.

Fall/winter storage onions are available August through April. Also available in yellow, red, purple and white, storage onions have multiple layers of thick, dark, papery skins. Storage onions have an intense flavor and a higher percentage of solids.

Storage onions are the best choice for savory dishes that require longer cooking times or more flavor.

Onions are low in calories yet add abundant flavor to a wide variety of foods. Averaging about 30 calories per serving, onions are sodium, fat, and cholesterol free, and provide dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin B6, potassium, and other key nutrients.

My Favorite Mild sweet onions varieties are:

Spanish onions: known for their mild and delicately sweet flavor.
Bermuda onions: another category of mild onions that come in red, white, or yellow.
Walla-Walla Sweet onions: originally came from Corsica at the beginning of the 20th century and arrived in Walla-Walla, Washington where they are grown today.
Texas Sweets: available mid spring through early summer.

Research shows that onions may help guard against many chronic diseases. That's probably because onions contain generous amounts of a flavonoid called quercetin. Other sources are tea and apples, but research shows that absorption of quercetin from onions is twice that from tea and more than three times that from apples. Studies have shown that quercetin protects against cataracts, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

In addition, onions contain a variety of other naturally occurring chemicals known as organosulfur compounds that have been linked to lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

In Chinese medicine, globe onions (allium cepa) are said to calm the liver, moisten the intestines, and benefit the lungs. Raw onions are prescribed for constipation, for lowering high blood pressure, and for healing wounds or ulcers of the skin. Spring onions, or scallions (allium fistulosum), are used to induce sweating. One application for the common cold is to take 20 spring onions and simmer them with rice to make porridge. Add a little vinegar and eat while it is warm. Then wrap yourself up in blankets to induce sweating. Works like a charm, but is it the onion rice soup or the sweating?

Some health studies have shown raw onions to be effective in lowering overall cholesterol while raising HDLs, the good cholesterol. Additionally, onions kill infectious bacteria, a help in controlling blood sugar, aid in dissolving blood clots, and help to prevent cancer.

Onions were used extensively by the ancient Egyptians, as shown by drawings and inscriptions on their monuments. The Bible states that during the wanderings of the Israelites in the wilderness, they longed for the onions, leeks, and garlic they had had in Egypt.

In the first century many varieties of onion were known: long, round, red, yellow, white, strong, and mild kinds. For a time in the Middle Ages it appears that the onion was less popular than leek and garlic, while now the reverse is true.

The onion was introduced by the Spanish into the West Indies soon after their discovery. From there it soon spread to all parts of the Americas. Onions were grown by the earliest colonists and soon afterward by the Indians.

The Welsh onion - A. fistulosum - never forms a rounded bulb-only one to several long white scallions. This form is most popular in the Orient, but is grown almost everywhere. In Japan it is often incorrectly called "Japanese leek."

One form of onion, the so-called Egyptian tree onion, or top onion, produces "sets" - tiny bulbs - at the top of the stalk instead of flowers and seeds.

The leek - A. porrum- like the Welsh onion, forms only a cylindrical instead of a rounded bulb. The leaf of the leek, however, is flattened and solid, while the leaf of the onion is cylindrical and hollow.

In the first century the Romans considered that the best leeks came from Egypt, where they had been known in earliest Biblical times. The Emperor Nero is reported to have been nicknamed Porrophagus because of his inordinate appetite for leeks. He imagined that frequent eating of leeks improved his voice! He could have right!

In the 6th century the Welsh won a victory over the Saxons and attributed their success to the leeks they wore to distinguish themselves in battle. What a smelly fight that must have been!

"Know your onions" was a term coined in the 1920s to indicate that the many varieties of onions that were cultivated over the years never acquired standardized names from one locale to another.

Leeks have been common all over Europe for as long as we have records of food plants. In America, by 1775, they were cultivated by the Indians as well as the colonists.

Chive  - A. schoenoprasum - is an Old World plant now found wild in modern Italy and Greece. It is believed to be native to the eastern Mediterranean. The word "chive" is an Old French form of the French cive, derived from the Latin cepa, meaning "onion." Grown for hundreds of years in European gardens and in the British Isles.

The chive has beautiful blue flowers, but they produce no seed. It is propagated by planting the bulbs, which increase in number each year, forming dense clumps.

You can see that onions are not common and many types exist for our eating pleasure!

Onions add flavor to all types of foods while adding healthy nutrients. Eat and enjoy!

Lena

NOTE:
Sadly food alone cannot yield all the necessary healthy nutrients - especially balance of minerals - as they did in centuries past. BUT this one is close to a perfect prevention food! But we can't rely totally on our food intake! Because of the lack of nutrients in our soils and the pollutants added in the form of air pollution, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers important nutrients are almost nonexistent and we know the body is not capable of producing minerals with even the healthiest of diets, as it can vitamins, and must be obtained from our foods or daily supplemented...  Click Here to understand why minerals are so important to your body's health!

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) One of the Top, Fastest Growing Diagnosis!
(c) by Lena Sanchez

This health issue is one that is of epidemic proportion and no answers await those who are losing control of their body because of it! As a rule I don't like to insert recommendations in articles I write but this one is so prevalent I want to give anyone that wants it a chance to heal themselves or at worst prevent MS from getting worse!

What is MS?

MS means that you are losing control over your body. This happens when the nerves in your brain and spinal cord slowly lose their coating, causing an interruption in the signals from your brain to the rest of your body.  As a slow myelin sheath destruction becomes damaged they stop working properly. This can affect you in all sorts of ways. For example, MS can affect the way you move your body. You may at times find it hard to reach out for something or to walk properly.

What are the symptoms of MS?

#1) Some people with MS are hardly affected at all. But the disease is more serious for other people.
#2) The most common symptoms are feeling very tired and weak and having numb or "tingling" areas mostly in the lower limbs of the body. Some simply start to trip when there isn't anything near by to trip them. Foot feels heavy and difficult to walk. Some exhibit a foot dropping when taking a step.
#3) You may have flare-ups when your symptoms get worse and other periods when you feel fine.
#4) MS affects everyone differently. Just because you have this disease, it doesn't mean you'll be very disabled or need a wheelchair.

Many of the nerves in your brain and spinal cord have a coating called myelin. Myelin is made mainly of fat. It's important because it helps signals travel quickly and smoothly along your nerves to the rest of the body. When the pathway is interrupted problems happen.

What causes myelin destruction?

1.
We know that there are several OTC and prescription drugs, artificial sweeteners, food preservatives and other food additives in prepackaged foods that destroy the myelin sheath, when consumed regularly. [You can even read from drug and food manufacturers websites in their scientific explanation of a how a particular drug works or side effects during testing found - or read it in package inserts that is classified as a side effect to that particular drug.] One of the reasons we do not take any drug in our household!

2. Chronic inflammation in the body says your Immune System isn't functioning as it should, therefore creates the atmosphere to destroy Myelin coating. This is an important reason to make sure your body is free of inflammation. Sadly most do not realize it is happening. If your gums bleed when brushing that says there is inflammation there and  its highly likely you have inflammation in other parts of the body!  If you have diarrhea or chronic constipation, you have a very weak immune system and this allows inflammation to build up. Stop chronic constipation or diarrhea by making sure you are balancing your digestive enzymes and good bacteria in your digestive tract. Click and Read; Your Amazing Ecosystem Within and Digestion The Path to Health And/Or Illness to understand why.

3. An immune system that isn't working as it should frequent colds, allergies, fibromyalgia, asthma, etc. - cannot prevent your body from attacking itself. Those things point to the fact that you need to go to work rebuilding your immune system ASAP to prevent such attacks and kill invading inflammation and/or viruses. Anyone who has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease has a dead or near dead immune system and it needs repairing. Dr. Garland can help you do that. It will take time and lots of life changes to repair it!

True if the myelin sheath is too decimated they cannot be repaired, there is no help, only hope for control and prevent further damage. The secret is to begin repair with the first symptom.  Natural medicine has a better control and prevention plan than conventional medicine. I know that to be true as we have several people who have come back and have no more episodes of MS symptoms after a few weeks on Dr. Garlands MS Repair Kit.

Conventional medicine has yet to say they don't know what's causing this problem! Could it be because they do not understand the body as well as they think they do and definitely do not know how to heal it!  Also refuse to believe alternative medicine knows something they don't...

Conventional Medicine also says there's no cure for MS, but push drugs such as interferon that is said to reduce flare-ups, slow down the disease and help you stay active. A new drug was announced this week but sadly they are still going in the wrong direction with a drug and failure to recognized the need is to work on the immune system and habits, but that is wishful thinking on my part! Maybe I only hear from those whose failures taking conventional medications, but I have heard enough over the last year to alarm me!  When I researched the meds I also found that those drugs also kill people who take them. Some have called me, after consenting to their doctor's push to take Interferon, saying' "I wish I could die as the symptoms are worse since taking Interferon!"

Just remember that the FDA will approve a drug if it proves at least 20% effective in clinical trials. I do not think 20% is a very good number to be okay for release on the public! That means 80% are in danger if given that drug.  I could not find the number in Interferon drug trials so I cannot say this is one but with the calls I receive I believe it is!

There are some basic health tips that will help keep your brain full of myelin. There are no surprises here: as I'm always telling you, mind and body are inextricably linked, so maintaining physical health keeps your mind and body sharp!

I: Stay active; both physical and mental activity can speed myelin repair.

II: Pump yourself full of omega-3 fatty acids -- they may be as beneficial for myelin levels as they are for heart health.

III: Beware of elevated stress and hormone levels, which could damage myelin.  Balance your thyroid and reproductive system to prevent stress damage.

IV: DO NOT take Cholesterol Lowering Drugs, as they are known to dissolve and atrophy the Myelin Sheath and creates a build up of amyloid plaque!

Let's stop this epidemic illness NOW! Pay attention to your body and don't put off today what you should have done yesterday to assure you have a healthy body!
